The Regional Director of Agriculture, Antonio Arce García, stated in a newspaper interview that the Romero Group is attempting to stiffle his authority for having ordered a suspension of the activities of planting palm oil in hundreds of hectars deforested by the same company. The company has put in a penal accusation for “abuse of authority”. “They’re taking that action since I’ve affected their interests. But they won’t manage to stifle us”, sated Arce Garcia, “We expected this and we will reply as the law indicates”. So the RAL is alert: we are seeing more symptoms of central government and business interests taking further steps towards favouring ( as the proposed new forestry law wishes to impose) a “change of use “ of the forest to favor agro fuel industries.
